I am Rajesh Barua, a third year PhD student in the Department of Biology, working on Bisulfite sequencing on berry plants.  I am contesting for the position of Executive Director of Campus Life in the upcoming GSU Election 2021.

As a graduate student I always realized the importance of balancing graduate life with both academic and social goals. A strong social involvement in life is always helpful to get rid of academic stress and social problems, as well as for professional development. Since my undergrad life, I have always been involved in numerous social activities, and organizing cultural programs. I am always a sociable person in the best possible manner. Based on my experience and nature of personality, I believe I could be a good fit for the position.

I acted as a volunteer in various conferences: “YoungBB Biotechnologist” and “Annual Animal and Plant Tissue Culture Conferences” and worked in “Save the Children” to keep poor children’s basic rights. When I came to MUN, I started volunteering in “Canadian Blood Services” working with the survey of Blood Donation. Also, I joined in various societies and organized numerous cultural programs. Additionally, I was an Electoral Committee member of the GSU Election, 2020. And this work makes me so joyful and, I gained a plenty of experiences.

Your voice is so important! Please vote for me to raise your voice more meaningfully and effectively. When you choose me as your representative, my main goal is to accomplish following actions:

Accomplish Actions, not position!!!

My prime concern is to make your voice heard. Plan and organize a number of events for all graduate students to connect to each other, especially events that are a blend of global and NL culture. During pandemic, most of the students are being mentally depressed. So, I will organize Mental Wellness Workshop to better cope with the stress of graduate student life. I will try to make Multicultural Unity Program to accumulate all cultures and traditions in one platform.  The best way to do this is to invite all GSU recognized/ratified societies/clubs and arrange a Multicultural Food Festival. I will arrange a series of workshops including professional development workshop, career awareness workshop, social awareness workshop, and environmental issue related workshop. Also, I will make entrepreneurship program workshop on Post Graduation Job opportunity and arrange IELTS Program for student’s spouse. Besides, I will promote and strengthen societies/clubs and ensure that the allocated resources spend towards mostly graduate student involved events. In addition, I will organize monthly event (e.g., Trivia or requested event), particularly events that can be done during this pandemic.

Only commitment does not do anything, it should be visible. If you raise your hand for me, I can express my commitments to all the students. I would like to get your vote for me, Rajesh Barua as your Executive Director of Campus Life. If you have any questions, please raise your voice at rbarua@mun.ca. I hope, we will make a strong unity for MUN Graduate Student.
