Mohammed Abdullah

Dear Dynamic Graduate Community,

I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for the role of Executive Director of Communication in our Graduate Student Union. As graduate students at Memorial University, we are the heart of this campus—driving innovation, conducting groundbreaking research, and shaping the future of Canada. Yet, far too often, our voices go unheard, our concerns are overlooked, and our potential remains untapped. It’s time to change that.

I believe in the power of inclusivity, transparency, and proactive engagement to strengthen our community. Communication is the foundation of our collective success, and I am committed to amplifying our voices to ensure every graduate student is represented, respected, and supported. My vision as Executive Director of Communication is built on five key pillars:

1. Transparency & Accountability: I will champion open and honest communication, ensuring that decisions, initiatives, and policies are clearly conveyed to all members. Every graduate student deserves to stay informed and engaged.

2. Accessibility: Effective communication should break down barriers, not create them. I will make communication between executives and general members seamless, utilizing multiple channels such as social media, newsletters, and monthly meetings to keep everyone connected and heard.

3. Engagement & Empowerment: Your voice matters. Through regular feedback mechanisms and forums, I will ensure that every graduate student has a say in shaping our union’s priorities. Together, we can co-create a vibrant and responsive union that reflects our needs and aspirations.

4. Networking & Collaboration: Building connections beyond our disciplines will strengthen our influence. I will promote interdisciplinary networking and collaboration, fostering meaningful partnerships both on campus and within the broader community.

5. Advocacy & Support: Graduate students face real challenges—affordable housing, mental health resources, and overall well-being. As your Executive Director of Communication, I will advocate tirelessly for these issues and ensure that you have access to critical resources and information to thrive during your graduate journey.

Let’s embark on this journey of empowerment through communication. Your support, trust, and commitment are invaluable as we work towards a more inclusive and connected graduate student experience.

Together, we can amplify our voices, ignite change, and leave a lasting legacy for future graduate

students.

Sincerely,

Mohammad Abdullah
