Mohammad Javad Eshghi
Dear Students at Memorial University,
Graduate school has its fair share of challenges—academic pressures, financial struggles, and adjusting to a new environment. These challenges are even harder when student voices aren’t heard in the decision-making process. That’s why representation in the Graduate Students’ Union (GSU) is so important. We need strong, active leadership to advocate for policies that support students, create meaningful opportunities, and build a more connected and inclusive graduate community.
I’m Mohammad Javad Eshghi, and I’m running for Executive Director of External Affairs (EDEA) because I believe in the power of student representation. I want to ensure that we have a seat at the table where real decisions about our education, funding, and university experience are made.
Why This Matters
When students have a strong voice in GSU, we can:
✅ Push for better financial support, funding opportunities, and academic resources.
✅ Strengthen our connections with university leadership and external student organizations.
✅ Advocate for more student-driven initiatives, cultural events, and professional development opportunities.
But when we’re not involved, we lose ground:
🚫🚫 Our financial and academic concerns don’t get the attention they deserve.
🚫🚫 We have fewer opportunities to network, collaborate, and advance our academic careers.
🚫🚫 Major university policies are decided without student input.
Why Me?
I’ve spent my time at Memorial University actively supporting students, helping with academic challenges, financial concerns, and the overall student experience. I know firsthand the struggles we face, and I’m committed to making real changes that improve the lives of graduate students.
As Executive Director of External Affairs, I will work to:
✅ Ensure that student concerns are heard and addressed at every decision-making level.
✅ Build stronger partnerships between graduate students and external organizations.
✅ Advocate for fairer policies on tuition, research funding, and academic support.
✅ Create more student-led events, networking opportunities, and cultural initiatives.
This Election Is About More Than Just a Vote—It’s About Our Future.
If we don’t take action now, we’ll keep missing opportunities for real change. This is our chance to step up, speak out, and take control of our graduate student experience.
Let’s make this happen together.
