Sadie Mees

My name is Sadie Mees, and I am a Master’s student in the Department of Anthropology. I have been a MUN student since 2019, completing my BA and then beginning a Master’s here. I have a strong foundational understanding of how to work with the bureaucratic systems of MUN due to my experience here over the past 5 years.

I am confident in my ability to carry out the duties required of the Executive Director of Communications. I have experience in dealing with media, creating press release statements, administrative work, and public speaking.

In the past, I have worked within various clubs and societies on campus, such as MUN Mentors, the Anthropology Society, and MUN Students for Palestine. Working with these groups has helped prepare me with the skills I would need for this role.

I am comfortable interacting with the public and answering questions on my feet, as I have demonstrated over the summer as a media representative for an on campus advocacy group. Further, I have demonstrated a willingness and ability to be a strong voice lobbying for change on campus. I value transparency, engagement with the student body, and taking action to make demonstrable change. There have been clear calls for change to the university as a whole, as well as the GSU as an organization, and I am willing to put in the work to make this happen.

As someone who has had to reach out to the GSU for help with advocacy in the past, I know exactly how difficult it can be to have your voice heard. Moving forward, I’d like to help push the GSU in the right direction, towards a more positive and active role within the University community.

If I were to be selected for this role, I would look forward to creating social media campaigns and messaging to educate the student body about ongoing issues or events on campus. Awareness of the roles, responsibilities, and activities carried out by the GSU is something that needs to be improved, which I could achieve in this position.

Graduate students at MUN deserve an open and engaged body which is prepared to take feedback on their needs, and then carry out direct action to have those needs met. This is something I am well prepared to assist with.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

With peace and love,
Sadie
